Usage and maintenance
Proper use and periodic maintenance of universal joint shafts are crucial to their working quality and working life. Users are advised to pay attention to the following points in daily use:
1. Product use
1. Before first use, check and confirm whether the spline shaft, spline pair, and cross shaft assembly are fully lubricated. It must be ensured that clean grease overflows (fills up) from each lubricating part before operation.
2. After 8 hours of operation of the installed universal joint shaft, check whether the connecting bolts are loose. If there is any looseness, it must be tightened according to the installation requirements and observed for several consecutive shifts until the tightening force is in a stable state and the bolts are no longer loose.
2. Periodic lubrication and maintenance of products
Cardan shafts should be lubricated and maintained regularly:
1. Parts that must be lubricated: spherical bearings, splined shafts and splined pairs. When refueling the spherical bearings, the four bearings should be refueled separately.
2. Lubricating oil: No. 2 industrial lithium-based grease.
3. Refueling and lubrication cycle:
(1) Universal joint shafts used under high temperature working conditions should be greased once a week.
(2) When operating continuously under normal working conditions, add grease every 30 days.
(3) In the case of intermittent operation, grease can be added every 90 days.
4. After each addition of grease, the screw plug or grease nozzle should be re-tightened to prevent grease leakage.
3. Maintenance of cross cardan shaft
1. The cross cardan shaft is generally repaired along with the host equipment after half a year to one year of operation. When you find abnormal noises, radial swing cross-blade axial jumps, bearing heating, loose fasteners, etc. during daily long trips, timely maintenance and repairs must be carried out.
2. The maintenance inspection items of the cross universal shaft are:
a. The surface wear of the cross shaft journal, roller, and bearing raceway, such as pitting, peeling, chipping, etc., or the indentation or wear amount greater than 0.05mm on one side needs to be replaced. In principle, when repairing, adjust the pads and seals. All parts and holes should be replaced with spring retaining rings;
b. Wear of the spline pair. When the wear amount of the mating surface of the spline pair is greater than 0.35mm on one side and the spline pair is twisted and deformed, it needs to be replaced.
c. In view of the complex damage to the universal coupling’s wearing parts and the limitations of the use site conditions, we recommend that users remove the sleeves at both ends of the universal coupling on site and then ship it to a professional manufacturer for overhaul, especially if it is running at high speed. Universal couplings must be subjected to dynamic balancing experiments after repair.
Coupling installation, usage and maintenance
Product installation
1. When installing the coupling, try to align the main and driven shafts, and pay attention to the radial offset AY of the coupling not being too large;
2. Before installation, remove rust, dirt and grease from the shaft hole of the external gear shaft sleeve of the coupling and the connected shaft;
3. Detect the relative position of the two external gear sleeves so that the keyways at both ends of the coupling sleeve are in the same phase;
4. After installing the coupling according to the main and driven directions, use a torque wrench to tighten the connecting bolts evenly and symmetrically. After working with load for one shift, check whether the flange connecting bolts are loose and tighten them again.
Tighten and repeat this for several shifts until the tightening force is in a stable state;
5. When installing a telescopic drum-shaped gear coupling, attention should be paid to the swing amount of the bracket not being too large to avoid damage to the bracket bearing of the coupling. During normal operation, the coupling should be frequently observed for abnormal radial movements. Swinging and bearing heating and other phenomena, if these phenomena are found, timely maintenance is required;
6. No. 2 industrial rational grease should be filled before operation;
7. A running coupling may cause personal and equipment accidents
